Ian M. Berkowitz is a Partner at Nason Yeager. His primary areas of expertise are business and corporate law, which include mergers and acquisitions, business development, business financing, real estate ventures, federal assistance programs, federal procurement, government contracting, small business assistance programs and minority business programs.
Mr. Berkowitz also assists business owners develop and implement succession plans and estate plans incorporating both their business and personal assets. He advises for-profit as well as nonprofit entities on all aspects of corporate governance and compliance. He is also a business advisor to foreign businesses wishing to do business in the U. S. and U. S. businesses wishing to do business overseas. In addition, Mr. Berkowitz assists financial institutions and high-net-worth individuals identify companies for investment and/or acquisition. He also is on the advisory boards of multiple privately held companies as well as charitable and nonprofit entities.
Mr. Berkowitz is the author and presenter of a 3-day Business Boot Camp seminar for multiple companies on business topics including but not limited to: buying and selling businesses, incorporating and expanding businesses, obtaining government money for businesses and identifying and securing government contracts for businesses.
Mr. Berkowitz brings his government experience to Nason Yeager having served as an Attorney/Advisor to the United States Small Business Administration, Office of Hearings & Appeals in Washington D.C. In this capacity, he assisted and provided guidance to Administrative Judges and Administrative Law Judges to render decisions by reviewing and analyzing records of appeals filed with the Administrative Court regarding federal procurement, business financing programs, government assistance programs, women and minority business programs, employee grievances and the freedom of information act. He began his government service in 1992 with the disaster assistance division of the U.S. Small Business Administration in Miami, Florida where he organized and supervised the Agency’s 250+ employee legal department during Hurricane Andrew. He was also a clinical intern for the Department of Justice, U.S. Trustee.
Mr. Berkowitz is AV – Preeminent rated by Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating. He is a member of the Florida Bar, the United States Supreme Court Bar, the American Bar Association, South Palm Beach County Bar Association, Broward County Bar Association and the Federal Bar. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, his Juris Doctorate from Nova University and his Masters in Government from The Johns Hopkins University.
