Nason Yeager Gerson Harris & Fumero, P.A. land-use attorney Alicia Lewis was recently featured in the Sun Sentinel, offering her insights on the legal dynamics behind residents’ efforts to stop a large-scale redevelopment plan in Boca Raton.
Drawing on her experience representing developers and private property owners before governmental agencies across South Florida, Ms. Lewis noted that the proposed amendments requiring voter approval for the sale or lease of more than half an acre of city-owned land are “intense” and unlike anything she has seen before. She explained how municipal codes generally allow the public, elected officials, or staff to bring petitions to change local laws, and emphasized that residents can be highly successful in these initiatives, particularly when large tracts of land and significant changes to daily life are involved.
